Mattng is more than the border that surrounds your art. One of the reasons we use mats is enhance the artwork and make it more decorative. While that is the obvious objective there is another more subtle reason for matting. That second reason is to protect and preserve your artwork. If protection is a major criteria in framing your artwork - then the use of conservation quality matboards, backing, mounting and glass are essential. Conservation mat are Lignin, and acid-free (naturally present in all wood products). This purification is doneduring the process used by manufacturers in the production of conservation boards.
